Library Time

Every Friday we have library time. I wish you could all come with us to witness the change that comes over a class of energetic middle syndicate children when they walk into our school library. This is such a special, peaceful time in our week! We love looking at new books and sharing them with each other. This is one of our favourite parts of the week.

We Love Our Buddy Class!

On Friday, we had our first time meeting our buddy class - Room Two. 

Room Two is a new entrance class and while their numbers will increase as the year continues, they currently only have 8 students. Our big middle syndicate class of 28 were all very keen to help our new Buddy class and so we got to enjoy a ratio of nearly 4:1 to help them practise spelling and reading. Can't wait for Room 2 to keep growing!

WE HAVE SUNNYBEE!

Every Singing Assembly, one class gets awarded our School's Singing Bee 'Sunny Bee' for excellent singing and behaviour. 

Today was Sunnybrae's first singing assembly and Room 17 got to bring home Sunny Bee! 

Well Done Room 17! 

School of Fish

Yesterday and today marked the start of Room 17's  swimming lessons. The instructors helped them get into groups and they  have spent the time showing off their skills, shivering and having a marvellous time. I have never seen a group of people so excited about anything!

Some of the students have had to overcome a few fears of getting in the water and getting their faces wet - I have been so impressed at their bravery! And some really might just be part fish. 

We have been looking at names for groups of animals. In our reading groups we have a Crash of Rhinos, A Tower of Giraffes, a Parade of Elephants and a Dazzle of Zebra. We have now made our own school of fish!!! 

Soccer Promo

On Friday, Room 17 got to take part in a soccer Promo initiative 'Football Kids NZ.' I interviewed them afterwards to get the low down on how it went, and here are some of the things they said:

I think its safe to say they enjoyed it! Thank you Football Kids NZ for such a cool start to 2017! Cant wait to see you back at Sunnybrae soon. 

The First Day!

Day One in Room 17: What a success!

It started with some nerves and a lot of excitement. After a full day of Assemblies, writing, Theme work organising stationary and setting up the classroom,  Room 17 enjoyed having some down time in the middle of the day to read silently in their new class.

If this was just day One, we cant wait for the rest of the year to see what we get up to!
